Scan to PDF/A-1b
For a court portal or an archive: PDF/A-1b with its ICC profile and conformance metadata, made on your device.
Convert a scan or photo to PDF/A-1b.
The short answer. Open the Compliance Studio, drop the photo or scan, say what the document is and choose the destination “Court e-filing (PDF/A)” or “Archival PDF/A-1b”. The studio straightens and cleans the page and exports an image-only PDF/A-1b with an embedded ICC profile and XMP conformance metadata, at 300 DPI and under the size limit of the preset.
PDF/A is the version of PDF made to be opened decades from now: fonts and colour information are inside the file and nothing depends on the outside. Many courts and records offices ask for it. Converting through an online service means sending a filing or a client record to a third party first; here the file is made on the device that holds it.
What the two presets deliver
PDF/A-1b, up to 10 MB, 300 DPI, US Letter page, enhanced text. A starting point: court rules vary, so check your court’s own requirements.
PDF/A-1b, up to 25 MB, 300 DPI, at least 2,550 pixels on the short side, greyscale, for long-term preservation.
An embedded ICC colour profile and XMP conformance metadata, which is what a PDF/A validator looks for.
When you choose a page type such as a contract or a statement, the photo is straightened, the desk trimmed away, shadow and glare evened and the text sharpened. Each step can be switched off.
Format, size in MB, DPI and page size can be set by hand when your court or archive asks for something specific.
Each delivered file carries a SHA-256 receipt hash, and docsupra.com/verify tells whether a file is the one that was delivered.
How to make a PDF/A
Open the Compliance Studio
Go to the studio, already set to Court e-filing (PDF/A), or to Archival PDF/A-1b.
Drop the scan or photo
A photo, a scan or a PDF. The studio asks what the document is before it runs.
Choose the type and continue
Pick the page type and confirm the destination. Every setting the destination implies is filled in and shown.
Validate one file, then download
Check the result on screen and download it. Validate one output with veraPDF, the open-source PDF/A validator, before you rely on the preset for a filing.
What it is not
The PDF/A is image-only: each page is a picture of the document and the text is not searchable. If your court requires a text-searchable PDF, this file does not meet that rule. The court preset is a starting point that has not been verified against any one court’s rules. DocSupra is not affiliated with any court and does not give legal advice.
What the Compliance Studio costs
Seeing the result is free. Downloading the finished file is paid, once.
Questions
What is PDF/A-1b?
PDF/A is the ISO standard for long-term archiving of documents; PDF/A-1b is its basic conformance level, which guarantees that the file looks the same when it is opened later. Colour information is embedded and nothing depends on outside resources.
Is the PDF/A text-searchable?
No. The file is image-only: each page is an image of your scan. If your court requires text-searchable PDFs, this file does not satisfy that requirement.
How do I know the file is valid PDF/A?
Validate one output with veraPDF, the open-source PDF/A validator, before relying on it. The studio embeds the ICC profile and the XMP conformance metadata a validator looks for.
Is my filing uploaded to convert it?
No. The file is read on your own device, inside the browser. There is no upload endpoint, no server copy and no retention period; you can disconnect from the internet and it keeps working.
Can I see the result before paying?
Yes. The result is shown at full size on screen, sharp and without a watermark. Downloading the finished file is what is paid: $9.99 for three documents with no expiry, or $19.99 for unlimited documents during 30 days.
