The short answer. You do not need a scanner. Photograph the page, drop the photo into the Compliance Studio, say what the document is and where it is going, and the studio straightens it, trims the desk away, evens the light and exports a file at the exact size, resolution and format the destination asks for. Everything happens in your browser: the document is never uploaded.
Scanning apps make a picture look like a scan. What a portal checks is something else: the file size, the pixel dimensions, the resolution, the format. A scan that looks perfect and weighs 14 MB is rejected by a portal that takes 12. The studio works to the published limit and tells you which one it applied.
What it does to a photo
The page is found inside the photo, the perspective is corrected and the desk is trimmed away, keeping the whole page.
Shadow and glare are evened and the text is sharpened; coloured bands, stamps and signatures stay.
An exact size in MB or KB, the DPI and page size, in PDF, PDF/A-1b, JPEG, PNG, TIFF or DOCX.
Each preset carries an institution’s published limit and the date it was verified, or says it is a starting point.
Cards and passports keep their colour, orientation and framing.

What it is not
It does not recognise the text: the file is an image of the page, so it is not searchable. It does not edit what the document says, it does not decide whether a document is genuine, and it is not affiliated with any government agency. Downloading is paid; nothing is free to download.

Questions
Can a phone replace a scanner?
For most filings, yes. A current phone camera captures more pixels than a 300 DPI scan of a Letter page needs. What matters is light, angle and exporting at the size and format the destination accepts, which is what the studio does.
Is my document uploaded to be scanned?
No. The file is read on your own device, inside the browser. There is no upload endpoint, no server copy and no retention period; you can disconnect from the internet and it keeps working.
Which formats can it deliver?
PDF, PDF/A-1b, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and DOCX, at an exact size in MB or KB, a chosen DPI and page size.
Is the scanned text searchable?
No. The file is an image of the page; the studio does not perform text recognition.
Can I see the result before paying?
Yes. The result is shown at full size on screen, sharp and without a watermark. Downloading the finished file is what is paid: $9.99 for three documents with no expiry, or $19.99 for unlimited documents during 30 days.
