The short answer. Drop a file, or a whole folder or ZIP, and the scanner reads what the file carries with it: the software that saved it, the edit trail, creation and modification dates, incremental saves and annotations. You get a risk level, Low, Medium or High, with every reason listed, and a PDF report with the SHA-256 of each file. It runs on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

A file that arrives by email or chat has a history you cannot see: what took it, what re-saved it, and whether its dates agree with each other. The scanner reads that history out loud, in plain words, and leaves the judgement to you.

What it reads

The software that saved it

Camera and phone firmware, photo editors, office suites and PDF engines each leave their name. A PDF from a PDF engine is a low signal; a camera photo last saved by an editor is a question worth asking.

Dates that disagree

Created, modified and metadata dates are compared, with time zones respected when the file carries them. A file modified before it was created is a fact, not an opinion.

The edit trail

XMP edit history, incremental PDF saves, annotations and form fields added after the document was produced.

Structure

What a screenshot, a re-encode or a generated PDF leaves behind in the file’s own bytes, independent of anything the metadata claims.

The hash

The SHA-256 of each file, printed in the report, so the file you scanned is provably the file you kept.

A whole folder at once

Drop a folder or a ZIP and every JPEG, PNG and PDF inside is scanned, each with its own level and reasons.

How to read the result

Low means the file’s own record is consistent with a direct capture or a plain export. Medium means at least one signal deserves a question: a re-save by an editor, a date that does not add up, an annotation layer. High means several signals together say the file was changed after it was produced. Every level comes with the reasons listed in plain words, and the technical fact behind each reason.

The scanner does not decide whether a document is genuine and it does not accuse anyone. It states what the file says about itself. Whether that history is acceptable is a judgement for the person who has to trust the file, with the facts in front of them.

Questions

Does the file get uploaded?

No. The scanner reads the file on your device, in the browser. You can disconnect from the internet and it keeps working.

Which files does it read?

JPEG, PNG and PDF, one at a time, as a folder or as a ZIP, up to 40 MB each.

Is a High level proof that a document was altered?

No. It means several technical signals together say the file was changed after it was produced. The report lists each signal with the fact behind it; what that means for the document is your judgement, and the scanner never claims otherwise.

Does it include document downloads?

No. Repairing and exporting documents is the Compliance Studio, sold separately. The scanner subscription is unlimited scans and reports.

Is it included in the team plans?
